Is a stuffy nose your problem?

Well, a stuffy nose can be a direct result of sinuses or common cold. The cavities in your nose get blocked with mucus. And if you haven’t guessed yet, the biggest and most common cause of a sinus is an allergy that is triggered by micro-pollutants in the air such as dust, mold or dander. Here is where an air purifier comes in. Its role is to cleanse the air of these pollutants to make it more breathable. So, if unclean indoor air is what is causing your nose to feel stuffy then an air purifier can definitely help.

An air purifier cleanses the air inside your home by creating a vacuum that traps even minute-sized pollutants in its filter. The cleaner passes the air through several filtration stages before releasing it into the room. The air that is released back is fresh and free of any harmful particles that can trigger sinus problems that cause your nose to feel stuffy.

Note however that the indoor air remains clean only for 2-4 hours after switching off the air purifier. This leads to a drop in air quality so keep in mind that every time you turn off the air purifier, you will have to restart the cleaning cycle.

Further, to get maximum leverage out of your conditioner, you should use it in a proper way. Keep in mind the following points:

Since most purifiers have vertical air outlets and horizontal air intakes, care must be taken to ensure that the purifier’s air circulation is not blocked by any object. Make sure that you place the purifier at least 15 cm from curtains or walls.
It is also important that you place the purifier on a flat surface such as the floor, nightstand, or table to ensure stability and better performance.
You can use a stool to lift the air purifier up. This will help you catch the smoke efficiently. Try to place your purifier at the center of the room.
Also desist from using HEPA air purifiers in a humid location like a bathroom because that will dampen the fibrous media filters.
It is also not advisable to place the air purifier outdoors.
Since air purifiers perform best within an enclosed space, it is advisable to keep all the windows and doors closed when the air purifier is ON. Otherwise, the purifier will take an indefinite time to clean the air. However, you must remember to open the windows occasionally to let in fresh air as well.
It is recommended that you run the air purifier 24/7 at lower speeds to maximize the working efficiency of the fan and also to reduce electricity bills.
The HEPA or other fibrous filters can be replaced but can’t be washed. Be careful not to vacuum them if they’re not protected by a net or mesh filter. When replacing, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. After replacement, take care to reset the filter status indicator.
When wiping dust and debris from the air intake and outlet grills, use a dry microfiber cloth.
